Yes! I walk past here every day. Trash on the sidewalk is a perpetual problem, and not just the day before garbage pickup. This building needs more dumpsters and more often pickup. Even if the garbage was not all over the sidewalk, the many open bags of trash in their garbage area is attracting rodents and other pests.

This building is actually 516-518 Orange Street and according to public records owned by 516 ORANGE STREET LLC. Contact LCI, they can work with the landlord or in this case the slumlord to make better or be fined. if that doesn't work notify the Health Department.

Sometimes there is usable furniture in that location. It would be nice to pass along anything usable and sanitary to people in need. Maybe the property owners could coordinate with an organization that recycles furniture. Clearly it is not all usable stuff, but they could try to do something positive with the situation.

Hi. I agree this is very concerning. I am the alder for this area and have reported this to the owners several times. They plan to design an enclosure to better contain the trash/recycling. I just asked if there is space in the basement as well for people to bring their stuff and/or if it can get picked up more often. And I alerted LCI.

Separately, in response to one comment referencing traffic safety, on 9/30 there is a city hearing on building a sidewalk on the North side of Pearl St, which would be very helpful.

I have lived here 7 years. I have heard over and over how the owner is going to fix it. They renovated the entire building (and presumably charge higher rents). I’m glad they take care of the building. But they actually need to solve this problem.

Here, here! Winter is the worst, that stretch virtually impassable. Great to hear the sidewalk on north side is FINALLY getting attention...that stretch of Pearl has forever been ignored, why not limit car access?. Hopefully the old trees along there won't be sacrificed.

Thanks All! Sounds like situation has been brought to landlord's attention. We noted the impassable sidewalk (public space) being impacted and could also give a warning to LLC situation persists.

I've walked past here almost everyday the last few weeks, and this area has been kept very clean (including the private area containing the dumpsters). Thanks for getting this solved.
